•Both total and core retail sales saw record levels of annual growth, increasing 6.7% and 4.8%, respectively.

•Ecommerce sales are estimated at 7.5% of total retail sales in 2017, and are expected to grow to 13.7% in Canada by 2021.

•1.6 million sq. ft. of retail space was delivered in H2 2017, with an annual total of 4.8 million sq. ft. in 2017.

•The development pipeline totaled 8.2 million sq. ft. at year-end, the majority being comprised of mixed-use projects.

•Of note, Vancouver, Calgary, and Winnipeg are each building more than 3.0% of their retail inventory, above the Canadian average of 2.2%.

•The overall national vacancy rate decreased 60 bps from mid-year to 3.3%; this recent trend of lowering vacancy is not expected to continue in the face of several retail departures, chief among them Sears Canada.
